The outpost has communal camping equipment. This includes tents, lanterns, cookware, kitchenware, and so on. Therefore these kinds of items you need not buy for your Ranger.
I went over the various products and the name brand options. My list is a suggestion of what I thought was the best product for the price. I looked at the type of material, the construction of the product and how functional it will be. Most items fall in the middle price range of what's available. I took into consideration the kind of camping we will do. For example, no need to buy a higher priced mummy sleeping bag, when a 4lb. fill sleeping bag will serve our purpose. We will do more "car camping" than backpacking, but we will hike and Rangers should have boots. As boys get accustomed to the outdoors, we'll start backpacking with the older boys. This will mean some additional gear that is more lightweight, but that is down the road.
The 2 most important items to buy are a sleeping bag and an insulate pad. You can buy the other gear later if you need to.
Do Not Buy Any Knives or Axes!! Outpost Commanders will conduct training and only when a boy has passed the course, will we suggest what knives are allowable.
Time to go shopping and get your Ranger ready for camping!!
Mark the boy's name on all of his gear and clothing ! ! !
