Welcome from Pastor Ray
Welcome to Maranatha Chapel’s Salt and Light Ministry. The purpose of this ministry is to provide useful tools for believers for participating in and influencing our governing bodies.
Jesus said to His disciples: "You are the salt of the earth...you are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:13-14). Salt purifies and preserves, while light dispels the darkness and illuminates the truth. This is what Jesus calls us to be— and we can certainly use more salt and light on our political landscape!
The apostle Paul also had much to say on the subject of government. In Romans 13, he urged believers: "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.'
But being "subject" does not mean avoiding being an influence. Paul also wrote to Timothy: "I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercession and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and all those who are in authority..." (1 Timothy 2:1,2).
God has given us the most effective and powerful tool first of all, in prayer. Then, He places believers in influential places and gives us the opportunity to be the salt and light Jesus spoke of.
I hope you'll make wise use of the information assembled on these pages. I'm very grateful to those members of our church who made the time and effort to do so much research and make it available to all of us. But, I also encourage you to be like the Bereans -- that noble group of believers in Acts 17 who listened to Paul and Silas preach and "received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures everyday to see if what Paul said is true.'
I urge you to do the same. Take this information, study it, pray over it, and examine the Scriptures daily to seek the truth.
May we all be salt and light!
God bless you,
Pastor Ray

Should You Get Involved in Politics?
Many Christians avoid public service because it seems corrupt and dirty. Yet, is it possible that political life has degenerated because people with strong moral standards have shunned it? The Bible has some surprising messages for us about duty to our government.
As a church, we want to honor Jesus Christ in every area of life (Colossians 3:23). We want to encourage one another to love and good works (Hebrews10:24) . All things should be done through prayer, supplication and faith in action according to God’s Word (Ephesians 6:18, James 4:17).
As the nature of citizenship involves varying viewpoints, it is important to please be sensitive to the differences of the opinions of others (Romans 12:18). We are not here to argue politics or to side with political parties, we are here to offer tools for the purpose of furthering the Gospel and the well being of others through Christ honoring, Biblical and family friendly laws and influences in our society.
